This is as commercial/mainstream of a post as you will ever see for me but good music is good music dammit (the public isn't always wrong lol). Despite enjoying indie and underground music MUCH more than your microwave radio music, I can't help but absolutely love the music these two young cats put out. Neither is a master rapper or singer, but their unique styles of combining both to come up with their own sound is FREESHH (key KRS-One here). Both their mixtapes this past year (So Far Gone & A Kid Named Kudi) blew other artists' official albums out of of the water and were as complete of projects as you could ask for. Their careers seem to be paralleling each to an almost eerie degree. Drake rode his success and signed to Lil Wayne's Young Money while Kid Cudi joined Kanye's GOOD Music label. Both have had solo monster hits (Best I Ever Had & Day N' Nite) and followed them up with singles with features from hip hop's biggest heavyweights (Drake's Forever ft. Lil Wayne, Kanye, & Eminem: Cudi's Make Them Say ft. Kanye & Common). If things couldn't get any better, both had the privilege of appearing on Jay Z's The Blue Print 3 getting co-signed from hip hop's biggest star. The future is absolutely limitless for these two artists and I'm excited to hear all the new music they'll be creating.
