ROUNDTABLE #2

ROUNDTABLE #2

Mac Miller-Got a Clue

Gilly: Cool song but I don't think its anything special.
Grawedog: Get some talent. The worst song on the week.
Chops: Solid song, fantastic instrumental, but I can't help thinking in the back of my head everyone I'd rather hear rap over this beat.
Lefty Hook: the common instrumental is nice, and the girl in the video is pretty cute ("eyes like elmer, got me glued" lol). mac miller is not a bad rapper but i wish he was a little less breathy at the end of his verses.
High Frequency: some kid used windows media player to create this?
Chivato: Slowly and surely Mac is turning me into a loyal fan. There's a lot of room for improvement in terms of delivery and flow but he's definitely got that (i hate to say this...) swag. He's unique, got his own style, and keep improving song after song. I love how he took one of my favorite Kanye beats and made it his own.
Bobbito: Finally, affirmative action for white people. Not a fan.

Passion Pit-Sleepyhead

Gilly: It's out there, but the synth hook makes me wanna listen over and over
Grawedog: I love the sound these guys have created, its fresh
Chops: I feel like I should be wearing a feather boa and tiara while listening to this song. I usually need about a dozen beers in me before I'm down for that, so I'll pass on this slumber party.
Lefty Hook: a half-way decent song by an ultra-hyped musical group. totally did not expect chivato to pick a non-rap song [I didn't pick this you botard]
High Frequency: would like it when drunk i guess
Chivato: Kinda outta the box for even me, but I can enjoy this given the right mood.
Bobbito: Someone should recommend this to Attorney General Holder for the "Enhanced Interrogation" program.

Brother Ali-Us

Gilly: UsAlways like pretty much anything by Brother Ali. Seems like a pretty good intro.
Grawedog: Brother Ali has a great voice, I could listen to him rhyme the phonebook, and this is much much better than that
Chops: It's like Forest Whitaker but more soulful, if that's possible. My only criticism is that it's too short. God damn this pasty bastard is easy to listen to.
Lefty Hook: all i can say is wow. i had heard of brother ali before, as well as some of his songs, but none resonated like this short 2 minute clip. what a powerful voice...if this guy preached at my church, i would believe in god. the only song on this list i went back and listened to again.
High Frequency: like it
Chivato: And if you don't know, now you know.
Bobbito:Finally something worth my time. Looking forward to the new album.

DJ Crazy Chris Minimix-Five On It

Gilly: Like the part with the Guess Who a lot

Grawedog: Another one from the master, anyone who says they don't love his mixes is lying, crazy, or stupid

Chops: Like Keystone Light, CC is Always Smooth. If I had any talent for mixing, I'd look to this guy's work some inspiration. Great transitions, and short enough that you can enjoy it and it doesn't have to get relegated to background music like so many mixes tend to for me. Only hitch for me was the first time American Woman came in, but what the fuck do I know

Lefty Hook: this song gets progressively CRAZIER. started off not too impressive because i've heard the first verse from "i got 5 on it" a million times. but when the electric guitar kicks in during biggie's verse the song starts coming together. props on the creativity

Chivato: Bionic Blendz 3 is still prob my most played music of the year. My favorites change week to week but I was jamming to this track a while ago and thought I'd let the gang listen to some real skills.

Bobbito: Not a fan of this mash up. I knew it within five seconds when I got five on it started. I've hated that song since a former college roomate with limited musical variety used to play it all the time. Combining that with engima's return to innocence ... return to the drawing board.

Hell Rell-Heaven in the Sky

Grawedog: Great song, great flow, great beat. I could listen to this song every

Chops: Like the instrumental a lot, like the song topic a lot, and it's catchy enough to listen to in the background, but Hell Rell ain't anything special. But sometimes it's nice to listen to a song that's not overproduced. style="margin:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt">Lefty Hook:decent song. unfortunately these "i remember when i was an innocent kid and now everybody is dead" songs are a dime a dozen now and this one is just as forgettable.

High Frequency: same kid as the first - this time with keyboard? [are you sure you’re listening to the right song? Lol]

Chivato: I'm a sucker for introspective tracks from emcees but as much as I wish more cats switched up their subject matter, Hell Rell should leave these types of songs to the likes of the Last Emperor and Brother Ali. Not bad though.

Bobbito: Good shit. I could drink to this

Lily Allen-22

Grawedog: I like this song, but I think she speaks in lengthy sentence that kind of screw up the flow of the song, especially in the chorus.

Chops: Only three types of people should like Lily Allen. Women under 30, men under 12, and any guy whose girlfriend is in the room with him. Lucky for me, my girlfriend is at work. [go f*** yourself]

Lefty Hook: listening to this song and watching this video makes it easy to see how people can fall in love with her. her voice is cheery and silky smooth, and the music at first listen is very innocent sounding, but she gives off a much more complicated vibe when you look at her. the song itself is nice too, definitely a fan of the re-emergence of more classical jazz elements in pop music.

High Frequency: refrain kills it

Chivato: Just something about her draws me in. Like her voice, her no bullsh*t attitude, and her song topics.

Bobbito: I might listen to this again next time I watch Bravo. So never. [I’ll pour you some of that haterade next weekend]

I like a lot of cc's mashups. I just nearly had a cardiac event from the beginning sequence. The rest was pretty good, but the dominant impression that stuck with me was the beginning (for the aforementioned reasons).

all good bobbito....we as dj's realize we only have one chance to make a first impression....sometimes that first 20 seconds is vital and can make or break the listeners response
