After hearing about BloomBars from songstress Courtney Dowe during her performance @ Dupont Circle a few months ago, I finally made my way up to Columbia Heights to experience the magic. Taking a left onto 11th street my roomie and I immediately found the venue with its doors wide open and music pouring out into the street. We grabbed a seat as David James and his guitar warmed up the crowd for the man of the hour, Terrence Cunnigham. I've been to a fair amount of shows over the past few years but this was something else. The intimate venue, interaction of the audience, and the attendance of Terrence's parents and family made the show truly personal. This is true SOUL music from a future star. I was a fan within the first 5 minutes and was absorbing the magic as much as I could (with some video taping on the ChivatoCam of course lol). Take a listen to his tribute to his Great Aunt Etta Baker (@ the 8 minute mark) and tell me you're not impressed. The show even ended with an impromptu collaboration between Terrence, David, and songstress Stacie Aamon. It was a pleasure to see so much talent in a such a warm and personal environment. If you're near the DC area be sure to stop by BloomBars (3222 11th St NW) around 8:30pm on Sunday nights or check the sites above and give these artists a listen.
