On my 1-day trip scouting for apartments in DC, I made my away across Dupont Circle Monday evening and ran into the DC Guerilla Poetry Insurgencywhich is "an anti-authoritarian, collaborative, pro-humanity artists' collective incorporating music, rhythm, spoken word, community and resistance." I sat down to just catch a breathe from my all-day exploration of the city and listened to some of the poets as well as the open mic newbies. I immediately noticed a young lady in pink during all of this, chalking some flowers on the circle's concrete. Well she was later called to the mic and delivered a breathe-taking performance that blew me away. Courtney performed 4 or 5 songs dealing with issues such as genocide, the chinese communist party, and Sean Bell (what else would you expect at the center of the political world) with a powerful free-spirited voice. Check the videos taken on the "ChivatoCam" (lol) above and check her myspace for more info on this talented artist.
