One of my buddies and guest authors J.O. loves the old school hip hop sound, especially from the West Coast, and posted up Ahmad's "Back in the Day" track a while ago. I remember hearing the track years ago and didn't think much of it b/c...well I was a kid and couldn't relate to it and probably didn't even pay attention to lyrics back then hahaha...just the catchy choruses. After hearing it when Josh posted it up...I've been listening to it almost everyday. Finishing collge, I'm hitting that age where I've started looking back and missing those days with no responsibilites...days filled w/ nintendo, power rangers, thundercats, doug, golden eye, manhunt lol. This song is truly one of the best tales of nostalgia I've heard reminding us of our childhood, innocence, and youth. The chorus says it best: "Back in the day, when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore, but some days I sit and I wish I was a kid again" Ahmad might be from a different era than us but this song will serve as a soundtrack to all of us young adults and our aching nostalgia of the good old days.

Well, this gets me to this week's mashup of the week by Goodwill Projects. Usually DJs/producers take the most popular acapellas and beats to craft somewhat predictable mashups and many of them sound the same. After listening to some of Goodwill Projects' mashups/remixes/blends (whatever you wanna call them), I noticed that most of the mashups used underappreciated tracks and hidden gems that very few DJs have used for their mixes. I have never seen or imagined a DJ using artists like J Live, Aceyalone, Sage Francis, Del, Lyrics Born, and the Roots to craft mashups. Going through the older compilations I found Ahmad's "Back in the Day" mashed up w/ Blockhead's "Sunday Seance" and being that the original has become one of my fav songs I thought I'd post it.

So listen to this song and see how many times you gather with your friends this summer and have conversations starting w/ "Yo remember BACK IN THE DAY...." HAHAHHA

But life is good and I'm excited for the future

One Love
